Programme

The programme below is comprehensive! The actual programme (and therefore less comprehensive) for the courses is defined at the time, depending on the duration of the training and the wishes of the trainees.

 

Canons

Based on a given text:


Simple counterpoint

The counterpoint models will be based on three different types of cantus firmus, depending on the case:

CF1 = pedagogical cantus firmus

CF2 = cantus firmus from the repertoire, in modern notation

CF3 = cantus firmus from the repertoire, in facsimile form from an edition or ancient manuscript


• Gymel in 3ds et 6ths (16th c. songs ) (CF3)

• Faux-bourdon from the soprano or from the tenor (15th c. songs and hymns) (CF3)

• Gymel + contratenor bassus (15th and 16th c. songs) (CF3)

• Gymel + mixed contratenor (15th c. songs and hymns) (CF1-2-3)

• For 4 voices, with a 3/5 bassus, with a CF in the tenor or in the superius

- without imitations (CF3)

- with imitations (CF2-3)


• For 4 voices, with a 8/10 bassus, with a CF in the tenor or in the superius

- without imitations (CF1-2-3)

- with imitations (CF2-3)


 

Florid counterpoint

The counterpoint models will be based on three different types of cantus firmus, depending on the case:

CF1 = pedagogical cantus firmus

CF2 = cantus firmus from the repertoire, in modern notation

CF3 = cantus firmus from the repertoire, in facsimile form from an edition or ancient manuscript


1 voice over the CF, with rhythmic constraint (CF1-2)

- 4 notes against one

- consonant and dissonant syncopations


1 voice over the CF, with melodic constraint :

- 4 descending notes (CF3)

- 6 ascending or descending notes (CF3)

- 1 phrase from an hymn (CF1-2-3)


- without any obbligato motif (CF1-2-3)

- with an obbligato motif (CF1-2)


2 voices above the CF, with :

        - a soprano in 10ths and a 5-8/8-5 alto (or tenor) (CF3)

        - a soprano in 10ths and an alto (or tenor) in free counterpoint (CF1-2-3)

        - a soprano and an alto in free counterpoint, with imitations (CF1-2)


3 voices above the CF (CF1-2)



Canon in unison above the CF (CF1-2)

Canon in unison the CF (CF1-2)

Canon in unison around the CF (CF1-2)

Canon at the octave around the CF (CF1-2)


• In 10th around a plainchant (CF1-2)

• In 10th around a figured chant (CF1-2)
