SINGING FROM THE BOOK
Singing from the book (super librum cantare) during the Renaissance meant adding one or more voices to a written melody while singing. In this workshop, we will explore, through improvisation, different models of counterpoint from the 15th and 16th centuries:
- Simple counterpoint (gymel, fauxbourdon, gymel + bassus, 4-part counterpoint)
- Florid counterpoint (1 voice over a cantus firmus, with melodic or rhythmic constraints)
- Canons (at the unison, at the octave and at the fifth)
REQUIRED SKILLS AND PROGRAMME: CHOOSE YOUR LEVEL
The course is organised into two level groups that sometimes work separately and sometimes together.
